Redbourn v Radlett CC U15 on Thu 19 May 2011 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won 87 RUNS
Match report
Radlett won the toss and opted to bat.Fresh from an opening stand of 70 earlier in the day,Will and Tom rattled to 62 off 8 overs with some scintillating stroke play. Will played one memorable cover drive before perishing for 34 holing out trying to smash a high full toss .Tom and Rohan put on another 58,Ro bothering the trees again with 2 big sixes before being bowled.Tom upper cut a 6 over third man to bring up a well constructed 50 and continue his hot streak(111 against surrey on Sunday the highlight!)The two James brought the total up to 156 but we should really have been looking for an extra 15-20.No harm in being greedy.
Redbourne had one good batsman and he usually plays for Harpenden. He hit a good 36 but he rest of the batting crumbled-initially to Simeon, who opened because Harry refused to bowl uphill, and extracted numbers 2,3 and 4.
The preliminaries out of the way, the main show started when leading wicket taker Harman marked out his run to bowl the 10th over-a nice tight 3 runs conceded and no taste of the drama to come. The 12 th over was again tight until Harman lured the opener into a rash shot with a crafty waist high full toss-well snaffled by Jaimin off the last ball of the over.
Coppers tied down an end until Harman started the remarkable 14th over;taking a wicket off each of the first 3 balls to secure a hat trick, then 4 in 4.Number 10 blocked out the fourth ball of the over only to fall LBW the next-5 in 6!! It was a beautiful display of inswing bowling and he well deserved the plaudits he received.
Jaimin wrapped up the innings as everyone either batted or bowled.
It was unquestionably Harman's night but I would also like to mention our fielding which was excellent throughout.James Scott in particular with a direct hit run out from midwicket and two good catches, was exemplary.
The next game is Letchworth where the last few seasons we have had to play with an assortment of under 7s due to poor availability. With Habs having an away fixture and the Aldenham contingent taking their home economics GGSE (Luke is doing needlework and baking*)it looked like disaster would strike again.Fortunately it sems the Habs game has been cancelled so we may have a bit of a side after all.
*for all those who take the mick out of the manager's shirt-remember, only I have admin access to write the reports........ Errrrr No Your'e not Andrew but I agree with you!!!!!
