Knebworth Park v Radlett CC U15 on Fri 06 May 2011 at 6.00
Match was Abandoned Bad light
Match report
A close game was abandoned after deteriorating light made it too dangerous to continue.Radlett lost the toss and looked set to limit Knebworth to a low total. After 6 overs Knebworth had only 11 on the board as Luke and Harry bowled impressive opening spells.Riks started well but then found Harry Jerome a handful as he went for 3 4's in one over.Joe bowled with aggression but extras were mounting.Harman finally had Jerome stumped for 24 and it seemed we were on top. However, Will bowled a loose over and after James Scott had cleaned up the other opener with a good yorker, they had a big lad who carted the bowling to all parts.Luke finished him off with a beautiful slower ball but not before he had carved 31 very valuable runs.
In light that was always a bit iffy we needed a brisk start. We we were going along quite nicley then Tom was given out strangled down the leg side. The wicket was a pudding and James found it hard to get the bolwing away before edging on for 1.Rohan then joined Will and after scratching for a bit both got used to the pitch and the light and started giving it some humpty.21 came off overs 15 and 16 including 12 off Jerome.Unfortunately this marked the beginning of the end.One blow by Will over the top split two fielders-not that they knew anything about it-far too dark! Knebworth's fast bowler took the next over and when Will couldn't see it,the Umpires took the hint from a spectator flashing his lights in the car park and abandoned proceedings.
It would have a been a tight finish-31 off 4 overs but in good light I think we could have done it.In good light we would probably also have had more than 81 after 16.Equally we need to show more urgency when the light is good. Two maidens were patted back off a fairly innocuous seamer and we need to bat positively from the off.
