Match report Poor club availability meant that the fifths had only four players left from the previous week's maiden Division 10 victory, and they found Pirton too strong at Queens' School Bushey, losing by six wickets.

A 53-over total of 141-9 was not enough, even on a pitch offering assistance to bowlers. Two wickets each from Tome Blazevski and James Mills, on his debut, gave Radlett some hope as Pirton slipped to 80 for four, but no further breakthrough arrived after Mills reached his mandatory six-over limit. At that point a surprise victory was still a possibility.

Tony Johnson did a fine job as stand-in captain, having not seen at least eight of his charges in action before. Four of his five bowlers were restricted by league rules to short spells. Radlett's innings only partially recovered from the loss of two early wickets, and the sight of Lee Greenland's bat blade flying away from the handle soon after his arrival at the crease proved to be a bad omen.

Newcomer Dan Garfield led a fightback by top-scoring with 34. Though not an accomplished batsman, he concentrated well and picked up runs when he could at a fair rate. From 70-3 Radlett lost all momentum and only 19 runs were scored off 12 overs after Garfield's dismissal. Ross Bratt picked up the initiative and took the score up to the bonus points threshold.

Blazevski took two early wickets in reply, and his ability to bowl the occasional 'pearler' was very encouraging. Greenland bowled his first six overs for eight runs before an over costing 17 spreadeagled his figures, but at least his ball did not break in two as his bat had done. Overall this was a decent performance from a largely very youthful team.
