Harpenden v Radlett CC 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2011 at 11:00
Radlett CC Lost By 5 wickets.
Match report
Having set a new HCPCL club record for the 4th wicket, Radlett proceeded to spill no less than six catches allowing Harpenden to squeeze home in an exciting run chase.
Shane Burger (114*) and Kabir Toor (85*) put on an unbeaten 212 for the fourth wicket which could have been even higher had the Harpenden over rate not been so slow (for which they were penalised one point). This beat the previous best of 210 set in 2009 by Tom Jenkins and Gareth Berg (Middlesex CCC Player of the Month - April 2011).
Harpenden won the toss and decided to bowl. Radlett started reasonably well and reached 52 before the loss of their first wicket, as Andre Sharma was dismissed on 19 by Simon White.
Fellow opener Lloyd Patermott fell three runs short of his half century, again to White, and Nick Fielden only added eight to the scoreboard before Nick Lamb dismissed him – with wicket-keeper Chris Warn having a hand in all three wickets.
The exceptional pair of Burger and Toor came together with the score 83 for three and helped their side finish on 295 from 62 overs. White took two wickets for 57 runs from his 18 overs and Lamb ended with figures of one for 53 from 13.
It seemed like a healthy like to defend, especially considering Harpenden had only won their first league game of the season the weekend before.
And Radlett would have been pleased with their start after Heath Paynter, having seen his first two balls go for 10 runs, had Ricardo Damiano well caught by Nick Fielden at slip.
But Greg Cooper (68) and Lamb (38) set the tone for Harpenden as they reached 100 before Lamb was dismissed by Paynter (two for 47 from seven).
This brought Ben Frazer to the crease. He rode his luck by way of spilled chances and his 127 was to prove decisive. Toor dismissed him with the score on 282 for five but Ed Washington (25) and White (13) saw Harpenden home. Toor ended with three wickets but was hit for 89 runs from his 19 overs.
