Except for Jake, who did not realize he was playing until the afternoon, this was a totally different team to Sunday & 3 were making their debuts.
Morgan Stanley was captain &, with Ragu a bit late he & Niki Veale (25n.o) opened the batting. Niki took the first ball & despite 3 ducks previously in this league he played with great composure to share a 60 run unbeaten opening partnership in the 4th over. Jake Jones (11) hit a few lusty blows before being caught & Ragu was out LBW to a good ball. However we stayed composed today, helped by some wides & Roshan Baskarran (11) shared in a good stand with the returning Morgan who scored 54 n.o & never looked like getting run out. 179/4 was an excellent total.
Even more pleasing was our bowling. We only bowled 3 wides in 11 overs to a strict umpire. Roshan (3-14) bowled his opening 2 overs really well & took 3 wickets in his 2nd over to give us the upper hand. The first wicket was a brave catch by Morgan at mid wicket to a batter who was scoring freely. We then had some tight bowling by Niki Veale & a particularly accurate spell by Dhylan Baskarran.wh only went for 22 runs. Ragu gamely had an over & fielded well at cover. Our fielding was generally very sharp though we did miss some easty run outs. Jake kept a cool head for his runout though. Dhylan took a good catch to dismiss the opener late on & we were victors by 80 runs.
Hemel played better than on Sunday with some strong batters so this was a good comprehensive first league win for us & shows we have a good squad for our remaining fixtures.
