Radlett CC U15 Indoor v Long Marston on Sun 04 Dec 2005 at 5pm
Radlett CC Won 78 runs
Match report
Sun 4th Dec Radlett U15s 171-3 bt Long Marston 93 All out by 78 runs.
Although the score shows a comprehensive victory, Radlett had to work hard for this win. Long Marston opened the bowling well but Matt Soffair & Kailash Morjaria still recorded an unbeaten opening partnership 0f 46 in the 3rd over. In the next over Kailash ran out Luca Guerrini who did not face a ball & the, after being dropped ran himself out on the same ball. Morgan Stanley came in to steady the ship While Jake jones played very aggressively to entertain the Radlett supporters with some lusty blows including a six. He went for 15 & then Niki Veale continued his batting improvement scoring off every ball to reach 26 off 6 balls. Morgan also retired 0n 26. Matt Soffair returned to reach 40no & help guide Radlett to 171-3, a challenging total.
Morgan opened the bowling & bowled 2 aggressive opening overs. Niki Veale came back well to claim the opener’s wicket after being hit for four. Long |Marston then consolidated reaching 72-1 after 8 overs. Radlett’s leg spinners Soffair & Jones were beating the bat on occasions & kept the pressure on so that Long Marston were well behind the scoring rate though with 5 wickets left still had a chance. Jones figures of 0 for 11 in his 2 overs of big turn kept Radlett ahead.
Then there was an incident when the ball was kicked away in the 9th over when a run out looked certain but Radlett kept their concentration for Kailash to take a good low catch off the next Soffair ball. Stanley sensed now was the time to come back & there followed a great throw by Jake Jones to run out the new batter at the bowler’s end with a direct hit. Matt Soffair then also had a direct hit to claim another wicket. Kailash & Luca Gueerrini combined for another run out & then Niki Veale caught the last batter to see Long Marston crash to defeat in the 11th over. It was reminiscent off England’s recent test collapse. But as with Pakistan’s performance the Radlett fielders’ aggression made it happen.
A good performance saw Radlett finish mid table with 4 wins & 4 losses in this campaign. They learnt from the early defeats that you have to bat out your 12 overs & aggressive fielding/ wickets wins matches!
