This was a good victory against one of the top teams in the league. Hemel Malde opened the bowling & took a sharp caught & bowled in his first over. Morgan Stanley followed with a wicket maiden in his opening over, Hemel taking a nonchalant catch. A maiden against quality batters is a rarity in this fast paced cricket. With two class batsmen removed for ducks we were on top but we then proceeded to bowl many expensive wides, many going for 6 or 7 runs each. However we still looked sharp in the field & Matt Soffair took a catch off deadly Morgan’s bowling to leave Hemel at 40-3 ion the 4th over. Hemel then put on a 45 run partnership helped by 54 runs in wides in total before 3 run outs saw a late collapse & Hemel were all out for 102 in the 10th of 12 overs. Matt Soffair & Neel Malde turned the ball & were economical. It was good to have Luca Guerrini in the team at last after many injuries & he added zip to our fielding. Jake Jones polished off the last 2 batters with slick run outs. 102 runs is not a big target we would expect to chase 150 runs.
Hemel needed a good start, but Hemal Malde & Morgan Stanley both opened briskly hitting commanding fours. After reaching 64 runs in the 4th over Morgan was needlessly run out & Jake was then run out without scoring at all. Matt Soffair came in, only to also get run out going for a walk. Luca & Neel achieved the necessary runs aided by some wides & risky shots . We did win comfortably with over 4 overs to spare & 3 wickets left but were careless at the death. Cool heads are needed for this form of cricket.
4 wins in a row after the early losses has turned this campaign around.
