Hemel Hempstead v Radlett CC 1st XI on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 11:30
Radlett CC Won 7 wickets

Match report Radlett stormed back to the top of the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 East table as they recorded their 6th win of the season at Heath Park, the home of Hemel Hempstead. Set a target of 232 for victory, Radlett were rarely troubled and cruised home for the loss of just 3 wickets with 9 balls to spare. Graham Dill , a man in fine form, made a sublime 90, finding the boundary with powerful drives and deft deflections to lead the charge. He shared an opening stand of 78 with Nick Fielden (29) before
combining with Rob Smith (70) for the decisive partnership. Both men used controlled aggression, never allowing the home side's spinners to settle, and were quick to cash in on anything short. Dill fell in the 90s for the second time this season and departed with 48 needed, soon to be followed by Smith, but Steve Lowe made an assured 27 not out to steer Radlett home in fine style.

Earlier, Hemel skipper Giles Berry won the toss and decided to bat on a dry pitch and under clouldless skies, but his top order struggled to get on top of the pace and bounce generated by Shane Burger, and the accuracy of Stuart Browne. Indeed it was the latter who picked up the first 3 wickets to fall, including the dangerous Ricardo Mohammed smartly caught by Mitz Choksi. Youngster Rob Watson took over from the unlucky Burger and soon made an impact, bowling Ian Potton with a superb yorker. With 4 wickets down Hemel were in trouble, but captain Berry was joined by Nick Hodgins and they added a half century stand and appeared a little trouble until, on the stroke of lunch, Berry on 48 flashed at a widish full length swinging delivery from Graham Dill and edged to slip where Rob Smith held on to a superb catch high to his left. After the interval, Hodgins held the innings together and with useful contributions from Matthew Potton and Alex Collman managed to steer Hemel up to a competitive 231, Hodgins finishing 61 not out. Burger returned to the attack at the death to claim 2 wickets and halt any late charge, whilst Stuart Browne finished with 3-83 off 26 overs.

Once Fielden and Dill had made a sound start, 231 never looked quite enough, and the 7 wicket victory takes Radlett back to the top of the table as leaders Welwyn Garden were beaten by Knebworth Park.

Radlett skipper Daniel Chippeck commented: "I was very pleased with the team effort in the field to limit them to 231 in fast scoring conditions and in oppressive heat, and it was gratifying to see the bowlers efforts cashed in on by Graham Dill and Ron Smith who both batted superbly, no doubt giving the Hertfordshire selectors a nudge with their consistent run making this season. The spirit in the team is excellent at the moment, and I know that there is more to come from this group of players over the
remainder of the summer"
