Radlett CC 1st XI v North Mymms on Sat 10 Jun 2006 at 11:30
Radlett CC Won 8 wickets
Match report
Radlett continued their fine form in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 East with a crushing 8 wicket victory over local rivals North Mymms. Radlett skipper Daniel Chippeck won the toss and decided to bowl, and his seamers warmed to the task on a glorious day, Shane Burger striking early with the new ball to dismiss Chris Stead for 18 to a fine catch at slip by Graham Dill. Burger followed that up by sending back Duncan Elder, and then shortly thereafter key batsman Andy Lewis, clean bowled by a marvellous seaming delivery.
Stuart Browne and Graham Dill meanwhile were doing yeoman service bowling into a stiff southerly breeze, and were rewarded with the wickets of Neil Bamford and Mymms skipper Simon Clements respectively, and at 64-5 Radlett were in full control. Experienced all rounder Mark Saxby (34) then combined with youngster Kyle Claxton (28) for the best partnership of the innings, Saxby in particular punishing anything loose. However when he fell to a well judged catch by Chippeck off Dill, North Mymms quickly fell away, Browne claiming 2 wickets in the final over before lunch before Burger claimed Claxton to polish off the innings thanks to a fine diving catch by Rob Smith in the slips. Burger was the pick of the attack with 4-25, well backed up by Browne 3-37 and Dill 3-39, North Mymms dismissed for a sub par total of 114.
In reply, Radlett openers Nick Fielden and Graham Dill started positively against the lively Wendell Roberts, taking the score to 33 before Dill fell for 18. Youngster Mitz Choksi joined Fielden and they were building a sound partnership before Choksi unfortunately had to retire hurt after being on the receiveng end of a nasty blow to the forearm. Fielden , who had looked assured against pace and spin alike, fell to a fine delivery from Roberts which he edged to slip for a tidily made 39, but the two Smiths, Haydn (24 not out) and Rob (27 not out), combined to see Radlett safely home with a flurry of boundaries to all parts of the ground, Haydn Smith wrapping up the chase with a glorious square cut to the cover boundary.
The victory keeps Radlett in second place just 2 points behind current leaders Potters Bar. Next weekend, Radlett travel to Hertford on Saturday in their next HCPL Division 2 East fixture, before welcoming Middlesex Premier League opponents Brondesbury to the Brunton Memorial Ground at Cobden Hill on Sunday in the ECB Cockspur Cup 4th Round clash.
