Match report Building on the success of last week, Stumpies faced Ickenham. Ickenham are relatively new to the league, but no team is to be underestimated. Losing the toss, Stumpies were put in to bat.

The opening partnership of Cath McNeill and Sue Benson put on a season’s best opening 4-over total of 76 runs, with Cath top-scoring on a season’s best of 44 and Sue on a season’s best of 32 runs. The next pair of Laura Gurney and Katie Beverstock put on a useful partnerhsip of 33 runs off the next four overs. The final partnership of Louise Penny and Alex Hampton (didn’t lose her wicket) added an equally useful 28 runs off the final 3 overs. Stumpies innings total of 237 off 11 overs, for the loss of just 4 wickets, was a season’s best batting innings total.

Ickenham were pressured from the off, but their first pair still added 34 runs for the loss of no wickets. Finally, in the 6th over, the pressure finally told with Katie taking 3 wickets in one over. The second pair never recovered and only added 8 runs for their partnership. The final pair lost 3 wickets and could only add 1 run for their partnership. Ickenham finished on 143 off 11 overs, so Stumpies beat Ickenham by a a very impressive 94 runs.

Stumpies wickets were taken by Katie (3), Laura (2), and Sue (1). Louise had just 5 byes, so another good performance behind the stumps, and she also scored 15 runs (a season’s best). The fielding was very good by everyone, and very unusually there were no ‘no balls’ during the entire match. Extras were pretty low, but still too many wides (19) ladies.

Yet again, the team spirit was fantastic, and everyone enjoyed the game. Bring on Hemel B next week.
