Match report
The first round (quarter-final) of the indoor cup saw Stumpies take on Hemel B. Stumpies lost the toss and were put into bat. Stumpies knew the opposition were going to be no pushover, and so it proved!

The opening partnership of Cath McNeill, and returning to indoor Sue Benson (ake Sube), put on a useful opening 4-over total of 51 runs. The next pair of Piya Haria and Alex Hampton put on a very useful 42 runs over the next four overs. The final pair of Laura Gurney and Louise Penny battled added an extra 6 runs off 3 overs. Stumpies innings total of 199 off 11 overs, for the loss of just 5 wickets, provided enough opportunity for Stumpies bowlers to put pressure on Hemel’s batters going into Hemel’s innings.

Hemel’s first batting pair started strongly scoring a total of 47 runs off 4 overs for the loss of just one wicket, even though Radlett kept creating wicket-taking opportunities but couldn’t quite seal them. The next pair continued on posting 37 runs off 4 overs but with the loss of 3 wickets.

The match was finely poised going into the final 3 overs with Hemel needing 16 runs to win, but a fine display by opening bowlers, Piya and Sue meant Hemel only putting on 9 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Hemel lost by just 6 runs with a final score of 193 for 6.

Stumpies wickets were nicely spread, with Sue taking 2, Laura taking two, and Piya also taking 2. Run outs were achieved by Sue and a stumping by Louise. Sue also top scored with the bat with 31.

It was a close shave, but yet again team spirit won the day. Stumpies will need to be sharper in the semi-final, but each team member has a lot more to offer. Bring on the semi-final against who we will have to wait and see.
