Match report The first game of the season for Stumpies saw them take on Hemel A. Hopes were high of beginning the season with a success. Stumpies lost the toss and were put into bat. Quietly confident, Stumpies set about building their innings.

The opening partnership of Cath McNeill and debutante Ravi Lakhtaria, put on a useful opening 4-over total of 53 runs. The next pair of Piya Haria and Alex Hampton put on 40 runs over the next four overs. The final pair of Laura Gurney and Louise Penny battled well against Hemel’s opening bowlers to post a respectable 16 runs off 3 overs. Stumpies innings total of 209 off 11 overs, for the loss of just 3 wickets, provided enough opportunity for Stumpies bowlers to put pressure on Hemel’s batters going into Hemel’s innings.

Hemel’s first batting pair started strongly scoring a total of 52 runs off 4 overs for the loss of just one wicket, even though Radlett kept creating wicket-taking opportunities but couldn’t quite seal them. The next pair didn’t fair quite so well posting 30 runs of 4 overs. By now the pressure of the numerous wicket chances of Radlett was starting to pay off as 3 wickets fell during the second pair’s partnership. The final pair needed 28 runs off 3 overs to win but a fine display by opening bowlers, Ravi and Piya, meant Hemel only putting on 3 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Hemel lost by 24 runs with a final score of 185 for 8.

Stumpies wickets were nicely spread, with Alex taking 2, Laura taking two, Piya taking three, and Ravi 1. Run outs were achieved by Louise, Cath and Alex, and Ravi took a catch off the wall.

Captain, Cath McNeill was very proud of the team’s spirit and for pushing over the finish line to chalk up the first win of the indoor season. A promising start.....bring on Letchworth!
