Match report On Sunday Radlett travelled to Bromley for the quarter final of the Evening Standard trophy. Two Ex test cricketers were in the opposition side and Radlett would need to be at their best.

Winning the toss enabled Radlett to bat first and they got off to a good start putting on 40 for the first wicket. But then some errant shots on a turning wicket left Radlett struggling. Only Rob Smith looked comfortable as he made a fluent 31 before falling to a catch in the deep. Captain Daniel Chippeck and Matt Evans helped push the score along with good contributions but a total of 135 was under par despite difficult batting conditions.

In return Radlett salvaged some pride with a good team effort in the field. Excellent bowling from Simon Jackson helped apply pressure to the Bromley batsmen. David Hegarty and Stuart Browne bowled with accuracy yet, with only a small total to defend, it meant wickets were needed.

These did not come often enough and Bromley ran out winners by a comfortable margin. The cup run was at an end and despite some astonishing come backs in the earlier rounds Radlett could not quite pull another rabbit from the hat. Five wickets was their reward for a gutsy display.

Thanks must go the travelling supporters who were outstanding in their efforts to rally the team. A long journey home was time reflect on what could have been, a quarter final appearance was an achievement but the players did not make enough good decisions collectively on the day and Bromley take the place in the semi final after playing some positive and disciplined cricket.

The team now must face the challenge of winning their remaining league games and be proud of what was a good cup run with victories against some very good teams.
