Old Owens - HCCA Final v Radlett CC U15 on Sun 10 Jul 2005 at 1:45
Radlett CC Lost 6 wickets

Match report Radlett U15s reach Herts County Cricket Association Final.

After the euphoria of defeating Knebworth in the Semi-Final, the boys showed great desire and team spirit to do their best in the afternoon.

It was a scorcher of a day at Haileybury and the boys had just 20 minutes to grab a bite before they were facing their nemesis from the league for the Herts County Cricket Association Final.

The opposition couldn’t have been tougher in Old Owens who included 7 County players in their team. Neville Coleman has all the luck!!

However, there were a couple of gems that shone brightly for Radlett Cricket Club. Firstly, Rob Watson, who as always gave his all, followed his 26 runs in the Semi-final with another 26 runs. He also bowled his allotted overs with fire, conceding just 14 runs. The other gem was team captain Shamit Nathwani, who it would seem had been waiting patiently all season for his day. This was his day!

In the Semi final, coming in at number 8, Shamit scored a quick fire 20 not out and then took 5-20 in his spell of 4 overs. That was a match winning performance.

In the final, Rob Watson and Morgan Stanley gave the team a solid batting start but Os expectedly bowled well, keeping the run rate to just over 4 for a long period.

After his earlier performance, Shamit Nathwani was promoted to 4 and he resumed his fine batting display. Shamit scored a well needed 34 not out, thus setting the opposition a reasonably challenging 111 in 20 overs.

When the Radlett boys took to field, they could see a glimmer of a chance to topple Os. The team put up some great display of bowling and fielding but luck was seldom on our side. For instance, there were a couple of sharp run out chances that could have turned the game, had it been for the excellent attempts coming off. Towards the end, the fielding and some bowling did lack just a tiny cutting edge. This was not surprising. The boys had given their all and were exhausted! Alas, the opposition reached their target in the 18th over with J Southgate scoring a superb 75 not out.

It was therefore, a disappointment all round that we were so close to achieving a first for Radlett Cricket Club but fell just short. But come on! We are the 2nd best team in the whole of Hertfordshire.

In the final analysis, it would be churlish of anyone to deny Radlett U15 team the fulsome credit it deserves by maybe focusing on minor points of ifs and buts.

Here is a team that combined a mix of talented U14s and U15s who played superbly spirited cricket throughout the season and who represented their club with pride.

Congratulations Boys!

Thanks also to all of the parents who made the effort to attend and make it a memorable day.
