Match report
A convincing win as the Under 13's charge to the Quarter Finals gathers pace.
We lost the toss against a young but spirited and well mannered Abbots Langley team. We gasped when we saw them warming up as there looked to be enough players for 2 teams. They had selected expecting cry offs and unlike ourselves none arose. Due to superb management (an error actually) we had 12 players to their 15 and a 12 a side game (whisper it quietly to the league) was agreed.
With normal opener Hirschowitz delayed by his hebrew lesson Simon Moses and Sam Miller strode to the wicket (Well Sam ran as he usually does) and a slow start was interrupted when guest umpire Jeremy Turek triggered Miller to a ball that seemed to hit his pad and not bat. This brought Sam Kutner to the crease where he stayed until the end of the innings anchoring it beautifully to end on 24 not out off 62 balls allowing the stroke players to crash the ball around. Josh Hirschowitz scored 22 in 13 balls and Joseph Davis scored 18 in 22 balls. What made our score was the 34 wides and no balls which meant that Abbots bowled 26 overs at us.
The last partnership picked up singles all over the place with Oliver Jackson (jnr) making his debut and Sam Kutner almost playing tip and run.
Their bowling also included 3 maidens including a lovely spell by Gary Wallace, who bowled quickly and straight, which showed how well we batted against the rest of the bowling.
Abbots never really threatened with the bat despite a well crafted 22 by Jon Battams (great name for a cricketer) and all the bowlers did well especially Yoni Cohen who bowled his left arm side spin for 5 runs, Daniel Cohen who despite 3 wides got 2-8. Joel Miller with 2 for 10 bowled cleverly and straight and hit the stumps twice. Manjul Ganatra was bowling really well UNTIL manager Paul Miller put him off with a shout of MANJUL YOUR GRANDAD IS HERE SO BOWL WELL. WHat happened was the next 6 balls were wide. (Nice one Paul). Kavi Kamal (no room on team sheet) bowled some super spin at the end and should have finished with 0-2 but off the seventh ball of the over he bowled a wide and off the ninth a four was crashed!!!!!
A good all round performance from a team with a slight Israeli bias!!!!
Well done to all 12 of you, Jeremy Turek and Tony Kutner for umpiring. Special congratulations to Tony Kutner for scoring 39 (his highest ever score) for Finchley N3 last weekend!!!
