Shenley Village 2 v Radlett CC U9B on Wed 19 May 2010 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won

Match report On a beautiful summers evening, the Radlett team arrived at the wonderful cricket ground of Shenley Village. This was predicted to be the toughest test for the Radlett under 9Bs. Rohan won the toss and elected to field.

The openers of Oliver and Josh performed with tremendous maturity with Oliver getting the first wicket. They bowled with great line and length and restricted the score to a respectable 223.

The next pair of Rohan and Rian came on with passion and drive to get wickets. Rohan as captain led by example and got two wickets in his first over. Not wishing to be out done, Rian bowled and got a wicket in his first over.Dylan and Kieran bowled next and each got a wicket in their first over. Dylan then got another two wickets taking his tally to an impresive three in his two overs. Stewart and James came on with one over each and both got a wicket on their first appearance for Radlett. The last over was bowled by Josh which was delivered with focus and accuracy. The team bowled very well and restricted Shenley to a final score of 262.

To win this match, Radlett had to score steadily and not lose too many wickets. Rian and Rohan opened and scored well for the first two overs getting to 212. The next two overs were challenging leaving Radlett at 199 after 4 overs. James and Sewart came in needing to score some runs to get Radlett back on track. They lost three wickets but managed to get the score to 208. With 55 runs to get in 8 overs the chase was not going to be easy. Dylan and Oliver came in with determination and focus. Oliver in particular played like a seasoned one day specialist scoring 18 runs. He played two perfet cricket shots, a cut and leg glance which were hugely impressive. The pair took to the score to 231 with 4 overs to go. This left 32 runs to get in 4 overs. Josh was facing and was unable to score any runs off the first 4 deliveries. He then got a boundary off the 5th ball. The 6th delivery hit Josh’s legs and was given as LBW. This was not agreed with the Shenley coach who insisted that he should be given out. I disagreed and we carried on. Josh continued to bat well getting the first six of the season. Kieran supported the batting with great running between the wickets. Josh finished on 30 runs (a new team high score).

The team finished on 266 runs which resulted in a victory.

The man of the match goes to Olive for his all round performance and dedication to the team. He bowled well and hit some magnificent cricket shots.
