Match report A convincing win to round off a fantastic programme of league results. Every game was won well and the boys can be rightly proud of what they have achieved this year.
Today they were asked to chase a target for the first time . Harpenden B were inexperienced and had no answer to probably the best bowling performance of the year. The wickets taken column does not adequately tell the tale of how well the boys bowled.Had we been playing LBW there would have been at least 3 easy decisions from my end.Whilst Harpenden blocked gamely there were also an awful lot of edges that would have led to wickets on other days. Only 5 extras were conceded.
It took a while for the breakthrough to come in the 5th over when Simeon bowled a beautiful flighted delivery to castle their number 4.Udeepa then hit the only stump showing to execute a brilliant run out before Will took a good catch behind off Jaimin.
After some bad luck earlier it seemed that it wouldn't be Will's day with the ball when a catch went down in the last over. However he bounce back to claim 2 with a catch by Harry and then bowling Bryn Luffman off the inside edge.
Chasing 195 all the boys had to do was bat sensibly-which they did,not losing a wicket for the first time this season. Joe hit a useful 11 whilst Jaimin with 9 and Simeon with 7 all weighed in. However the win was topped off by some brutal hitting from Will who smashed 31. The pick of his boundaries was a straight driven 4 which had the bowler ducking and the umpire taking evasive action.
All in all a very satisfying day for all concerned. Champagne moment x2; first Udeepa's fine run out with only a stump to aim at. second, Will's hitting at the end .There haven't been many straight drives at U9 level and none hit as hard as Will's today.
