Tring Park v Radlett CC U10 on Wed 23 Jun 2010 at 6.00
Radlett CC Lost by 33 runs

Match report A lovely sunny day, and an ideal setting at Tring Park for a cricket match.

Radlett lost the toss and were asked to bowl. The bowling was generally good, but Tring Park managed to keep out the good balls and score of the not so good. After 8 overs, Tring Park had scored 233 for 4. The next pair managed to keep the score board moving, and also managed to keep their wickets, moving the score on to 253 for 4.

Tring Park's last pair came into bat and laid into Radlett's bowlers from the first ball. Our bowling was probably not up to its best, however I believe we came up against two talented batsmen who scored freely throughout their innings. The pair managed to push the score up to 286 for 5 at the end of their innings.

Radlett started their innings knowing they had to up the scoring rate from the first ball. The first pair batted cautiously to start of with, but Samuel Stain managed to offset some of the early nerves and score freely towards the end of his innings, albeit losing his wicket a few times. The first pair took the score to 213 for 2.

The next pair came in knowing they had to push the scoring rate if we were to compete. Again, nerves played their part in a slow start, but the boys managed to bat sensibly and took the score up to 233 for 2.

The third pair came into bat with the clear instruction to get bat onto ball, and take runs whenever the opportunity arose. Unfortunately, there were too many plays and misses, and far too many missed opportunites to score of balls that ordinarily would have been dispatched to the boundary. The boys need to stick to the basics, learn to watch the ball onto the bat, and move their feet to the ball. After 12 over the score was 243-3.

The last pair faced a bit of a mission impossible, but I still thought the target was achievable with some good batting. Again, we missed too many opportunities to score runs, although towards the end, Max Sahota hit some lovely drives to give our score some respectability.

The innings ended on 253-5. We were thoroughly beaten by a better side, although I think if we focused a bit better with our batting, the result could have been closer.

A big thank you to all the parents for getting the boys to the match and supporting the cause.

Finally, I can take comfort in the fact that England qualified, although not sure I am that keen on the Germany fixture that awaits us!
