Welwyn Garden City v Radlett CC U14 on Sun 06 Jun 2010 at 9.30
Radlett CC Won by 100 runs

Match report Radlett defeated an improving Welwyn Garden side by 100 runs with a clinical and professional performance.

Deprived of Captain Will Wright and Tom Colverd due to county call ups Harry Copley was awarded his captaincy debut of a much changed side including three under 12s and Simeon for his first game since breaking his shoulder.

Coppers lost the toss and was asked to bat. Rohan and Jaimin steadily took the score along to 27 before Jaimin was caught by a brilliant Ross Ryan catch. This only allowed James Stowell to come to the wicket and he was beligerent against anything short and pulled with power. James and Rohan both went to 50s, Rohan batting like Michael Vaughan and James like Virhender Sehwag.

After they both retired Harry Mistry was punishing and smashed 33 in 14 balls. In his partnership with Coppers, Coppers faced 1 ball, where he could have been caught and scored 3 out of 31!

170 for 2 was going to be a hard act to chase.

Captain Copley and Harman took the new ball and Harry was quick and Harman was swinging the ball around corners in much the same way Tarzan could swing. The early WGC order could not cope and 2 Golden ducks followed. Taylor was looking useful at the top and Smith also batted well but could not score. Smith succumbed to a brilliant Luke Paice catch.

Luke then bowled but he was just too quick for Welwyn and they could not get a bat on the ball. At 46 after 10 overs the moment of truth arrived as Simeon was thrown the ball (This was the only time he was ever quiet during the match) and his first over was scratchy. His second was vintage Sim as he induced an outside edge to a slow ball and Captain Copley took the catch.

Simeon and Jaimin took 4 wickets in 4 overs and Jaimin nearly got a hat trick. Harry closed the innings with the 12s bowling and Adam got a lovely wicket, Harvey bowled well and got a wicket and wicket keeper Hugo Murphy got no luck.

All in all a comfortable win but a professional performance with a good team ethic and a match played in great spirit. Welwyn deserve credit for not giving up.

Thanks to Harish Mistry for umpiring and the 249 fans for braving the cold.

Man of the match: Adam S, Harvey P and Hugo M for their attitude and also for giving their all in the field.
