Chorleywood v Radlett CC Girls on Wed 29 Jun 2005 at 6.00pm
Radlett CC Won 13 runs
Match report
Another tightly contested game was just won by the girls by the margin of 13
runs. The standard of cricket on display from the boys and girls was quite
outstanding - on show was quality leg spin bowling, 1 handed catching and
fielding on the boundary, genuine pace and some orthodox hitting for 4's and
even 6's.
The girls put up a score of 254 for 2, which considering the standard of
bowling was very good. Ellie and Sumita opended the innings and kept out
some fine bowling, Chloe and Bindiya then came in and pushed the score along
nicely , Chloe hit a great pull shot for 4. Eleanor Gray and Alex kept out
the tight bowling and squeezed a few more runs. It was the partnership of
Saloni and Malika that gave impetus to the innings , Saloni ran Malika
ragged calling for near impossible singles, but credit to Malika she kept
up.. Saloni mixed up quick singles with some really intelligent batting
picking up 2's and 3's by hitting the ball into spaces.
254 was a gettable score with the short boundaries. All the girls bowled
well, another outstanding extra's count - only 8. The girls picked up
wickets regularly, however , it wasn't just the taking of wickets that was
pleasing it was the manner - Bindiya took two miraculous catches, fielding
in the out-field she snatched out of thin air two one-handed catches. Malika
has made the mid-on position her own, taking a quick run to her is risky
business, Alex , Eleanor and Sumita all fielded well.
Chloe's bowling is probably one of the best in the league right now, she
bowled with real pace and accuracy and bowled a great maiden over that kept
up the pressure when they boys threatened to get close to our score. I was
really pleased with Ellie Saunders who bowled 3 overs today and snared two
wickets - given that her first two delivers went for 4, that was a
tremendous come back. Malika also did extremely well with the ball 3 for 7
of 2 overs just about says it all.
All in all a very pleasing performance, with 2 games left , the girls should
feel confident of further success.
