Radlett CC Girls v Harpenden A on Tue 14 Jun 2005 at 6.00pm
Radlett CC Won 67 runs
Match report
There are not enough words in the English dictionary to describe how well the girls did today. A victory buy 58 runs when they ‘only’ scored 245 just about says it all. Against some very tight and accurate bowling the girls got off to a slow start, but they used the wides and no-balls to accumulate a competitive but beatable score. Lucy Holden played a couple of cracking pull shots in her score of 6 and Malika played a couple front foot drives that were straight out of the coaching manual. Chloe played aggressively and was unfortunate to get out a couple of times, the other girls guarded their wickets without looking for the big shots.
It was the bowling and fielding display that gave the most satisfaction. The girls gave away only 4 wides and 3 no-balls – quite simply an outstanding achievement. Chloe and Lucy opened the bowling and bowled a very tight and pacy spell – there were 2 maidens in the first 5 overs. Malika and Sumita came into bowl and both struck in their first overs, Malika with a ball that swung late and hit the middle stump and then Sumita with a ‘Steve Harmisson’ special’, a fast in-swinging delivery that crashed into the stumps and sent the bails flying in the air. With the boys required run rate increasing Eleanor and Alex bowled very tidy spells whilst still chipping away at the wickets column. Becky and Lucy finished of the innings conceding very little against some very attacking batting.
A special mention must go to Saloni, who if she carries on at this rate will be pushing Geriant Jones for a place in the England eleven. One stupendous catch off the edge was followed by two sharp stumpings. Saloni effectively played as an eighth bowler as she was just as likely to take a wicket as the bowlers.
If the performance against Tring 2 was good , that was nothing compared to today’s efforts. The spirit in the camp is great and the girls play a hard but fair game.
A final mention must go to the Harpenden boys who played really well and with great heart and spirit. With a bit more experience they will be a very good team next year
