Match report Rednecks 138 All Out LOST to Radlett 140/3 in 40 overs match

Radlett fielded a young Sunday XI for this friendly fixture against the Rednecks at Cobden Hill, with a couple of wise old head in Bernie Soffair & Andy(Angus) Fraser?

The Rednecks were held in check at the start by some fast bowling by Angus Calder and Simon Gray. Angus took two early wickets. The match changed when Rednecks number 4 entered; he hit a 6 off his first ball, and proceeded to hit 6’s and 4’s all round the ground, losing 3 balls in the process. Duncan Fraser was the bowler most able to contain him, and eventually bowled him for 61. Thereafter our bowling gained the upper hand. Simon Gray finished his 8 over spell with 2 wickets for 17, including the stubborn opener. Andy Hayes bowled a tidy spell of 5 overs; 2 for 21. Ian Fraser turned the ball and was unlucky not to have a couple of stumpings given. Luca Guerrini was sharp as wicket keeper, taking a good leg side catch. Neel Malde bowled 2 quality overs at the end of the innings and took 2 wickets for 2 runs. It was a relief to have a 138 run target to beat as at one stage it looked like we would have to have faced 200 plus.

Our reply started slowly, and we lost 2 early wickets of Alex Asher and Duncan Fraser. Andy Hayes opened with 18, but at 50/3 after 20 overs, the match was finely balanced. Simon Gray and Matt Soffair then built up a 91 run partnership, nicely accelerating into the last 10 overs, and reached their target with over 2 overs to spare. Simon Gray reached 60 n.o., and Matt Soffair 42 n.o.

The match was played with good spirit between the sides, and it was pleasing to see how we performed as a team to gain our victory.
