Radlett CC U15 v Old Owens on Mon 27 Jun 2005 at 6pm
Radlett CC Lost 9 wickets
Match report
On a lovely summer’s evening, the omens were not good when Radlett lost the toss and were asked to Bat.
Early dismissal of Kailash Morjaria, 2nd ball LBW for 0, took the wind out of Radlett’s sails. Initial reactions were that the decision was very harsh! Thereafter, tight bowling by Owens and a well spread out field prevented Radlett’s route to early boundaries. There followed a steady removal of top order batsmen (Shamit Nathwani 7, Morgan Stanley 0, Ameer Kamal 7) and Radlett were visibly struggling at 38 for 4 off 12 overs. All of the aforementioned will need to do considerably better in the coming matches.
A brave charge by; Kieron Collopy (17), Luca Guerrini (26), and Bhavin Kakkad (13) gave the home side’s score a look of respectability but a total of 87 was never going to be enough unless Radlett were to get their share of early luck.
Owens bowled and fielded well, supported by their County Coaches and an army of parents and friends from the sidelines. Radlett also had a few Dads and friends present but in much smaller number. We do need more parents and friends to attend such crucial games and cheer our team. Maybe next time!!!
Radlett took to the field with pumped up desire to do well but it soon vanished with some erratic bowling from the openers, conceding extras and boundaries from the off. Shamit did his level best to stop the flow of runs (3 overs for 16) but none of the regular bowlers were able to demonstrate control.
Owens openers batted sensibly and punished Radletts loose deliveries and managed to reach the target with ease with just one wicket down. One or two leg-before shouts were in vein as were a couple of run out attempts. This was a harsh lesson for Radlett boys who were unbeaten to date.
On a positive note the team has reached the knockout stage by finishing 2nd in the league and it will no doubt make amends for this performance.
