Shenley Colts LC v Radlett CC U15 on Fri 20 May 2005 at 6:00
Radlett CC Won 10 wickets
Match report
On a cold evening at Shenley Green, the Radlett boys were up for it with their local rivals. However, the team were disappointed to have lost the toss and were asked to field first.
Perhaps the disappointment was carried into first 4 overs of the innings, during which Shenley Colts made an impressive 26 without loss. Simmons generated good pace but was wayward in his 2 overs (0-14) conceding 5 wides. Hemal Malde bowled a much tighter line and was unlucky not to pick a wicket or two through slips with his spell of 4 overs (0-17).
Shenley Colts opening pair (Metha and Kaye) rode their luck and put on a streaky 40 partnership in 8 overs.
Morgan Stanley came on as first change from the pavilion end and immediately restored Radlett’s authority on the match, with a steady line and length. From the other end, Rob Watson showed great maturity in his opening spell of two overs. He deservedly finished with 4-1-11-4, including a superb one-handed caught and bowled.
The other two bowlers used, Nathwani (3-0-3-1) and Collopy (3-1-4-2) were impressive and heeded their coach's instructions to minimise extras conceded. And thus, 40 for 0 off 8 overs was turned around to 63 for 9 off 20 overs.
Radlett opened their response with Kailash Morjaria and Matt Soffair. The first run came off the bat in the 5th over with the score stuttering at 7 runs. Credit must go to Shenley’s spirited response from Victor Stanman (4-0-6-0), Dinal (3-0-6-0), and their under-11 youngster Daw who took some punishment from Morjaria but showed great promise in one over when he was hit for 3 consecutive 4s but then bowled 3 dot balls.
Morjaria was keen to make up for lack of batting opportunities with U15s and after surviving a difficult chance, set about taking Shenley’s bowling apart with an array of finely stroked boundaries. He finished with a remarkable 47n.o. with Soffair 11.no.
A mention must also go to Radlett youngsters; Ben Weinberg, Ameer Kamal, and Luca Guerrini who all fielded well. In particular, and after a missed run out opportunity (and it was comical!), Guerrini was superb behind the wicket, taking two catches and letting nothing go past.
It was another superb team performance.
