Radlett U15B missed an opportunity to beat a strong St Albans side. Dhylan Baskkaran bowled a fast opening spell to beat the bat with his pace, but a few loose balls meant he only had figures of 0-22 in his 4 overs. Ryan Hallet opened well and took 1 for 10 in his 3 overs. However, the middle order bowling of Niki Veale with 4 for 7, and Neel Malde 3-14, put St Albans at 47/6 after 12 overs. Unfortunately they then recovered with a swift 34 from Ethan Fogharty, and our bowling and fielding became looser as we were punished. However, 96/9 was a gettable target.

We started scoring at 5 runs an over, but our first 4 batsmen continued to run themselves out with risky runs that were not run fast enough. Ragu Subramaniam scored a good 23. Unfortunately we then became rather becalmed, and Baju Ganatra (8 n.o.) and Marshall Cant (27 n.o.) realised it. The total was too big. Despite a good final 2 overs, we had left the urgency too late and fell 13 runs short. Nikhil Sharma wickek-kept well and had a good start as captain.

Still, an encouraging start – we could have won and surely we won’t run as poorly again?!
