Match report Radlett totally overpowered a weak Wheathampstead side at Cobden Hill on Saturday, bowling them out for 111, then sauntering to victory with nine wickets and 47 overs to spare.

Haxell lost the toss and Radlett were put in the field. After a bright start, Wheathampstead players got out to some impulsive shots.

Brown and Dan Hartman, playing his first game of the season for Radlett, bowled tightly and well and, after the first wicket fell at 30, it was a procession.

Hartman was elected as man-of-the-match for an excellent display of left-arm swing bowling, excluding a few poor early deliveries.

The wily Haxell brought himself on at a vital time, when the opposition were at their most vulnerable and most likely to get him a wicket. This cunning cherry-picking brought him excellent figures of 5 for 16, and the demise of the Wheathampstead innings for 111. Phillips (20) and K Martin (36), the skipper, looked the only danger, and carried the side.

When Radlett batted, only the bizarre playing-on of Ingram interrupted the serene progress towards victory, with Clark and Gray playing with increasing freedom.

One of the stories of the day was that of Michael Clark, who was a match-winning bowler who regularly took 50, and once 60, league wickets in a season, for the seconds. He appears to have binned the bowling, and is averaging over 70 for the thirds as an opening batsman.

This was 30 points for Radlett and, although Wheathampstead were not the strongest opposition, they were put away convincingly. The victory consolidated Radlett's position in the fourth of the four promotion places.
