Match report
Home Counties Premier League Division One
HENLEY 210-6 RADLETT 187-8
RADLETT are still looking for their first Home Counties Premier League win of the season after their home match with Henley ended in a draw.
Heavy overnight rain delayed the start of the game, reducing each side's innings by five overs.
After winning the toss, skipper Matt Evans put Henley in to bat but the decision soon backfired as the wet ball made it difficult for the hosts to make a breakthrough.
The Henley openers made a promising start with Edwards the aggressor, driving every ball pitched up over the in field as the scored advanced rapidly. However, the visitors were soon pegged back as the introduction of Oz Edwards slowed the run rate and saw Allway well taken at slip by Nick Fielden. Despite having severe throwing difficulties, Fielden was a revelation in the slip, making the decision to put him there look a masterstroke.
Opening bowlers Kervin Marc and Stuart Browne were reintroduced after lunch and both took full advantage of a new ball that offered swing as well as seam movement.
Wickets soon began to fall and from a healthy position of 140-1 with 20 overs remaining, Henley struggled to finish at 201-6.
Radlett managed to get off to poor start as Jim Chaudry was needlessly dismissed after smashing a waist high full toss straight to mid wicket. But they soon recovered as Matt Evans joined Fielden at the crease, with the pair setting the foundations for a solid innings, reaching 70-1 by tea. The pair continued to add to the score after tea and victory looked in sight for Radlett with 18 overs remaining as they needed just six runs an over to secure their first win of the season. Things soon started to go wrong though as Fielden (38) fell to wide delivery and Evans (52) was stumped soon after.
Marc was promoted to number five to try to restore the momentum, but his wicket soon fell, swiftly followed by Dave Mungrue, who was caught sweeping for 20. Wickets were falling at an alarming rate and with seven overs left the run charge was called off as Radlett decided settling for a draw was the sensible option.
