Match report RADLETT CRICKET CLUB advanced into the second round of the National Cup after an impressive victory against the excellent one-day side Fives & Heronians.

After winning the toss, Matt Evans proceeded to bat first as he and Jim Chaudry took to the Fives' opening attack with gusto. Chaudry's first scoring shot was a six to deep long on and this set the tone for his hard-hitting innings of 38.

Evans, after being caught off of a no ball on 0 took great delight in cashing in on his good fortune with 51 and again good support was given by Tony Pickett who scored 44.

A late quick-fire 38 from Jon Freedman enabled the Cobden Hill side to post a decent score of 217-6 off 45 overs.

In reply, Fives were soon on the backfoot as Stuart Browne claimed two early wickets but the visitors would not go down without a fight with the Fives opener smashing the Radlett attack to all parts of the ground.

Dan Amadee again showed great control to tie the batting down and the introduction of Oz Edwards saw the pair pick up wickets regularly.

When Edwards took his fourth victim with the score on 112, the game looked over but a stubborn eighth wicket partnership ensured a tense finale.

Indeed, with six overs remaining, Fives had positioned themselves into a winning position but having played without any pressure as soon as they had a chance to win the game some false shots came into play and when Browne ensnared his fourth victim the game was up for Fives who finished ten runs short of their target.
