Match report Radlett began the new season of the Home Counties Premier League where they left off last season and, although a similar result ensued, a High Wycombe victory, the manner of the performance was much improved on last season and the Cobden Hill outfit will be hoping for a higher points tally than last year.

With seven new players making their Radlett debut, this match was as much about finding a collective team spirit than winning a game against one of the competition's favoured teams. Having lost the toss to a High Wycombe side who had been busy in the recruitment stakes during the summer, Radlett were inserted into bat.

Trouble was soon upon them as Nick Fielden and Jim Chaudry perished early, however, former Saint Tony Pickett continued his pre-season form with an excellent 44 and, with the assistance of the club's coach, David Houghton (68), Radlett gained a commanding position.

The loss of Pickett and then, shortly after, Houghton was pivotal, as Radlett lost their last five wickets for just four runs to end their innings on 181. High Wycombe's new acquisition from title rivals Banbury, David Taylor, was the chief wicket-taker.

High Wycombe, with 65 overs to reach their target, started slowly. Bowlers Kervin Marc, Stuart Browne and Dan Amadee all toiled away with little success.

Amadee, an 18-year-old off-spinner, immediately settled into HCPL cricket and looks a player with a bright future. His efforts were not rewarded in this match and, despite many close lbw decisions, his only wicket came after a smart catch by wicket-keeper Ceri Luffman.

In the end, the amount of overs that Wycombe had to reach their target was crucial as, even when pegged back, the target always looked within reach. Wycombe captain Jason Harrison completed a solid, if unspectacular, half-century and steered his side home with six wickets remaining.
