Radlett CC Women & Girls v Shepperton 2nd XI on Sun 05 Sep 2010 at
Radlett CC Won by 71 runs
Match report
Radlett ladies had just 9 players to face Shepperton at home for a
must win 40-over game to fight off relegation. The odds were seriously
stacked against us, but the wicket gave us some hope that we could
build a total to defend.
Winning the toss, Shepperton fell in to our trap and put Radlett in to
bat. Openers Cath McNeill and Adi McCrea got off to a flying start
with 50 runs off just 6 overs. McCrea fell for 22, with Emily Grist
then forging a strong partnership with McNeill. All batters
contributed, with Gerry Davies batting with a double fractured finger.
All batters played their part. McNeill was caught on 102 runs off 37
overs - only the fourth century for 9 years for Radlett Women's.
Radlett built a total of 191 all out off 39 overs.
With just 9 players Radlett had to bowl and field out of their skins. They got off to a great start with McNeill taking a fine catch off Kanchana Morris’ bowling to dismiss a Shepperton opener for just 2 runs
in the second over. Wickets fell steadily despite the Shepperton wicket keeper making 51. Adi McCrae was superb behind the stumps and got a fabulous run out. Radlett tails were up as they sensied that the
impossible was possible.
Our young players, Aisha and Sonal Hirani made a fine contribution in the field, as did Gerry Davies, fielding one-handed. Emily Grist got four superb wickets and struck fear into the opposition with some serious pace bowling. Shaz Fazal bowled well to contain the opposition and was unlucky not to get a wicket.
Captain Piya Haria led by example and picked up three valuable
wickets, and Kanchana Morris completed the victory with a ‘caught and bowled’ dismissal to take the last wicket and finish the Shepperton innings at 119 all out. Radlett won by 71 runs and celebrated back at the clubhouse. The theme of the match was top team spirit and total determination to do our very best.
