Radlett CC Sunday III v Abbots Langley on Sun 25 Jul 2010 at 1.30
Radlett CC Won by 8 wickets

Match report Sunday 27th July. Radlett development team 164/2 beat Abbotts Langley 163 all out, by 8 Wickets

Radlett would have liked to bat, but Brendan Jones lost the toss and we were asked to bowl. With 10 potential bowlers in the team, no problem, but we did not want too large a target as the batting line up was pretty inexperienced.
Kushal Malde and Brandon Lewis opened the bowling and the Abbotts’ openers liked their pace and length and started scoring at over 5 runs an over. They were punishing anything slightly loose or short. They looked quality batters. Brendan brought on Luke Paice, who immediately beat the bat and his accuracy and pace brought us a wicket in his first over. He continued his spell for 6 overs only conceding 18 runs.
At the other end, Simeon was a crucial bowling change. The openers might not like the slower bowlers and that proved to be the case. In his 2nd over Simeon bowled the number 3, playing back to a straight one. Then in his next over, he atoned for earlier slow fielding to remove the dangerous opener, Matt Parkins, for 41, catching a very sharp low chance at his feet. He had 1 more wicket, and although he was going at 6 an over, he had decimated the top order.
The batters who followed were tied down by the duo of Rikin Shah and Shameel Ahmed. Rikin took 2 wickets at 3 an over and Shameel 3 wickets at just over 3.
So our bowlers had slowed the scoring rate and Abbotts were all out for 163, with 5 overs still left. They needed nearer 200 and would have been disappointed to collapse as they did, losing their last 6 wickets for only 30 runs in 12 overs.
However, Radlett Sunday teams have not had a great season, and the Sunday 3s have been bowled out for only 100 twice.
So instructions were to take our time and win the match.
Josh Charles opened with Shabs and kept out the accurate opening bowlers. Shabs scored at a reasonable rate early on, perishing for 25 in the 11th over, with the score on 35. That had allowed Josh time to play himself in,and we had had a reasonable start now only needing to score at 4.5 an over to win the match. Josh was punishing the bad ball and he and Rikin proceed to have a match winning 100 run partnership. Rikin may have only scored 25 of that but they started to run aggressively, and Abbotts could not contain them. Josh took advantage of the weaker bowlers and scored a chanceless 82 not out; with shots all round the wicket. John Armitage came in at the end to score a rapid 19 not out and we were home and dry with 5 overs still remaining.
Many thanks to Claire, Gita and Jill for the wonderful teas, And to Piero and Vijay for umpiring
This was a satisfying win for our final development match of the season.
. The concept of development cricket is good, we just sometimes lacked numbers due to exams or other factors. However we have always managed to raise a team, and won 4 out of the 5 matches played. The mix in ages is good and most players would now be fine in senior Saturday cricket. It is a shame that some opposition were unable to do fulfil some fixtures resulting in cancelled matches. Next season, we may be slightly light in numbers in the under 15/16 age groups so must discuss if members feel a team is feasible next year.
