Match report After a dismal performance in all forms of the game the previous week, Radlett were keen to put things right back at home. Coach Bernie Soffair had decided to make changes at the top with Kailash Morjaria brought in as skipper in attempt to change the atmosphere in the dressing room. Due to circumstances which would never have happened if the team were the Radlett 2nds and not the Radlett 3rds, the team found themselves playing in the familiar surroundings of the bottom pitch.

Radlett welcomed Old Albanians to the lair, where the opposition won the toss and decided to have a bat. Stan Collymore(Luke Paice) flew back from South Africa, neglecting his commitments for talk sport and opened the bowling along with Andriy Arshavin(Tome Blazevski). A reoccurrence of a hamstring injury sustained at home to Bolton Wanderers, caused the skipper to make a change to the attack and bring in Hemal “second best” Malde. The opposition put on a decent opening stand dominated by their first team player; however a decision made by the captain committee minus the dropped Shamit Nathwani, Napoleon Goldstein Dynamite and Tom Huddlestone, to bring on Draco Malfoy (Harry Copley). His combination of bowling a tight line and length and occasionally bowling a half tracker going down leg side that was given as byes when it was definitely a wide. His odd magic delivery got rid of two of the top three batsmen to put Radlett in the ascendancy. After much confusion about how many overs players can bowl with the umpires seeming clueless and the batsmen saying “yes he can have another one”, the skipper decided to controversially bring on the hard-man himself Danny Dyer (Lee Greenland). After not opting to bowl under the influence of previous captain Nathwani, Morjaria managed to get the most of out of the occasional genius but more often hopeless bowler. Greenlands good spell produced two wickets well backed up Harbarjan Nahandra. The Rough outside at the other end of pitch was controversially refused by Bhaji and opted for the end with no footmarks, and looked like a road. However the skipper and his team were astonished to see him turning the ball miles. This was matched by the batsmen who left the one hitting off stump half way up, well batted. Danny Dyer was replace by Stan Collymore fresh out of rehab who repaid the faith put in him by the skipper and got two wickets including the crucial one of the opening batsmen. Old Albanians got 178-8 in their innings in a much improved display from the Radlett Youngster (and Shabs who’s well old).

It was now for the make or break stage of the game. Claire Soffair and Gita Morjaria put on a great partnership to make a truly sensational tea. Claire Soffair after her coaching from Jamie Oliver produced beautiful sandwiches of the highest calibre, including the team favourites Coronation Chicken and Sausage Sizzlers. Radlett tucked in and put themselves in the right frame of mind to bat.

Radlett got the runs and won by six wickets, job done. Nathwani and Phil “I am by far the worst player in family, I haven’t even got a hope of winning a cap for the windies” Simmons will struggle to regain their places. However the team looks forward to welcome back their Guerrinis’ after their visit to Dubai following the recent bail of their youngest, Luca.
