Hanwell v Radlett CC Sunday III on Sun 13 Jun 2010 at 1.30
Radlett CC Lost 189 runs

Match report This fixture saw the switch from Development League to Chess Valley Div 5 for the Sunday 3’s and unfortunately it was a day when a young Radlett side were outplayed in all departments by relatively strong opposition at Hanwell. The game saw the return of Kailash, Luca and Hardain, post exams, in a strong looking line up and this led to us seeing a rare 150+ runs by a batsman and two five wicket hauls (But they were all for the oppo!!) Unfortunately for us this was the game that Hanwell’s hard hitting opening batsman came off like a dream and scored a remarkable 168 (with help from some poor radlett fielding , short boundaries and a very quick outfield!) while their opening bowlers blew away our batting with 5 wickets apiece.
Having chosen to field , Phil Simmons opened the bowling with great control and pace and beat the bat on many occasions in a fiery spell, well supported Luke Paice, who got better as the innings went on and bowled a very strong spell at the death, taqking 3 wickets. The bowling in general was good with Hardain and Shabbir bowling with good control until Hanwell began to hit out in the last over of each of their spells. But with the score at 200-2 after 30 overs and their opening bat going strong we were looking at a 300+ chase. Out of pure desperation skipper Shamit was convinced by the “captaincy committee” to give Matt Soffair a rare bowl. This was the turning point in the innings which led to a much better fielding performance at the back end of the innings with the highlights being Shabs’ diving catch at long off to dismiss their key batsman and Matt Soffair’s spell of medium pace to finish as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-23 in his 8 overs. It was an excellent comeback to keep us in the game. It was good to see such an improvement in the field in the second half of the innings and we did well to restrict them to 277 from the position they were in after 30 overs.
At tea, hopes were high of a solid start but it didn’t go to plan as we lost Stowell early in the chase. This led to the only meaningful partnership of the innings between a fluent and comfortable looking Soffair and a solid Hardain. After the loss of Soffair the wickets began to tumble and with 7 ducks we were never going to get close. Our batting collapse led to us being bowled out for 88 with Hardain running out of partners on 34. Luca was unluckily bowled by a half tracker that rolled along the floor, but other than that shot selection let us down against a decent bowling attack on a slowish wicket.
Hopefully, we can bounce back strongly next week.
A special thank you to Brighton Police Force for releasing our Italian overseas player, specially, for this game and he will be missed next week as he does a runner to Dubai with our umpire!
