Redbourn ll v Radlett CC 4th XI on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1.00
Radlett CC Won by 70 runs

Match report Radlett 4’s travelled away to Redbourn on Saturday. The day started badly with the Captain getting lost on the way! Yes, not possible you say, any fool can find his way to Redbourn Common! Not this one, sat nav and an error in the Herts handbook did it’s best to prevent the skipper getting to the ground in time to toss!
Just in time to race out to the middle, Hardy arrived and did his best calling of the year, the Redbourn skipper may not be the best tosser in the league, but he was sitting top of the table with 4 wins from 4.
Hardy won the toss and choose to have a bat on a hot and humid afternoon, a brave decision considering the batting performances so far in the year. Giles and Bhavin started nicely, producing a solid start. First, to go was Giles for 19, followed shortly after by an unlucky Mr Lewis given LBW! Next in was Hardy who stuck around for quite some time before smashing one straight to deep’ish mid off for 20, frustrated by the good bowling produced by Thatcher and Gridland in particular. Bhavin continued to bat sensibly despite losing a couple of quick wickets, notably from Alan Armitage, 28 and Marcus freeman 19*, he was unlucky not to finish with three figures out for 86. Radlett had performed well getting to a total of 203 for 8 off the maximum 53 overs. (bowled in 3 hours 25 min)
Over tea, a few spots of rain fell, a sign of the change in weather! It was now much cooler and not quite so oppressive. Hardy opened the bowling with the old ball to sound out the Redbourn openers and quickly found out they meant business when Meeps was dispatched back over his head for a well hit boundary, by the hard hitting left hander.
After 5 overs the new ball was taken by Leders and Hemang, neither having any success, as Redbourne raced away to a great start. It was not until Arif was introduced to the attack did anything start to happen, he bowled an excellent spell of 3 for 16, including the very hard hitting opener. Tom Woodhead played his first senior game for a number of years and enjoyed an eventful over before Meeps was reintroduced. Tom also had a near death experience, when chasing a ball to deep mid wicket he was nearly run over by a passing car!
With 25 overs to go, Redbourn needing just 100 with six wickets in hand the rain came down and stopped play! We were off for some considerable time, however a deal was struck by the captains to give Redbourn 17 overs, giving a reachable total at 5.8 runs per over. They started the run chase confidently, but when the wicket came the others followed with Meepergama (5) and Hardy (2) mopping up the tail to win what was an unlikely victory. A good game and day for Radlett 4's, 30pts.
Our prize for beating the top side is to play the top side again next week! This time at home against Shenley, looking forward to the return of Mr Shelly once again!
