Match report Radlett 4th eleven had a great start to the new 2010 season. Against a strong Old Finchleiens team Radlett lost the toss but were pleased when Finch chose to Bat, on what looked and turned out to be an excellent batting wicket. Radlett started well restricting Finch to 25 off the first 18 overs with some great bowling from new comers Brandon Lewis and Gwilym Jones. Shameel and Meep’s bowled very well and continued to restrict the scoring rate. Although Finch increased their scoring rate toward the end of the innings, when with wickets in hand, they swung the bat ending on 204 for 7. This in my opinion was 30 to 50 runs short of the total needed on this flat wicket. Rain was forecast for later in the day, along with it being the first game of the season it was still a total that could prove tricky.
Radlett started well always keeping up with the required rate, with the returning Giles Mitchell (34) looking in good form despite having been away from the game for a few years. Supported well by the new daddy of the team Matt ‘very proud’Bell. At the fall of the first wicket, enter newcomer Gwilym Jones, not a bad name for an Englishman! Unfortunately the 4’s will not see any more of Gwilym as he is destined for higher teams. His brilliant 97 not out was the highlight, and showed class in steering the side to a great win. With rain threatening throughout most of the innings Radlett pressed on at a good pace to win by seven wickets with 9 overs to spare.
Game won, covers on, it Rained and Rained…to the bar with 30 points and top off the table!
