Match report
Radlett 3rd XI v Old Camdenians 7th August 2010
Radlett played probably their best cricket of the season yesterday, but were robbed of victory by the quirky weather. As a result we now lie second to bottom of the division instead four or five places higher. Although this is not good news, it is actually heartening to see the team stepping up to the plate and playing confident, dominating cricket.
Batting first, Radlett made the ten-man Old Camdenians look increasingly untidy, with an excellently robust 67 from Matt Bell taking the game to the opposition. When he fell, the baton was taken up by Kailash Maorjaria, who scored 51 at a run a ball. With good support from captain Robin Willis, Shamit Nathwani and latterly Colin Warne, our innings closed on 258 for 8 from the 53 overs.
For only the second time, but not a match too soon, Radlett 3rds batters bossed the field. There was aggressive intent throughout, and they made an ordinary Old Camdenians side look at times a shambles.
When it was our turn to bowl, Dan Cohen and Neel Lederman had a total to bowl at, not just to defend. And they responded superbly, ripping out Camdenians top four in the first 16 overs. Rob Willis had set attacking fields, and it was good to see three slips and a gully laying in wait. We were well on top, and in predatory mood
Thus the score was 70 for 4 with Camdenians’ prolific Sri Lankan back in the Portakabin when the rain came and ended the match. Cohen had taken three of the four to fall, and both openers would certainly have added to their tally.
Remembering that this was effectively 70-5, and we had 31 overs to get the last 5 wickets, Radlett will rightly feel aggrieved. But at last we saw some positive, confident cricket from this team, which, if repeated, will surely keep them in this division.
