Old Owens v Radlett CC 3rd XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1.00
Radlett CC Won by 36 runs

Match report This was a remarkable game, 210 runs were scored, 20 wickets taken and 94.2 overs bowled. The pitch was by no means a minefield, but a slow surface that offered enough movement and the occasional indifferent bounce to make batting a tricky pastime. A sluggish outfield also contributed to the lack of scoring. With Brandon’s kit in transit (thanks Robbie!) , the captain’s hand was rather forced at the toss and having called correctly took the decision to bat. The early loss of our two openers brought together Bhavin Kakkad and the skipper, who set about building a platform for the innings but were strangled by some accurate bowling that offering little in the way of loose deliveries. At the half way stage of the innings were 49-2 and when Edwards fell immediately after the drinks break, a mini collapse was sparked as poor shot selection and possibly the mind set of upping the run rate saw Radlett subside to 80-7. Thus we were back with that common predicament of looking to bat out the overs, Colin Warne and Tony Peck used all of their experience to do exactly that and added a vital 24. Pecky, with the support of Brandon Lewis and Dan Cohen got the score to 123, still short of what was believed to be a competitive score.
But when Dan struck in the first over, a tidy catch by Shamit and then Brandon forced the other opener to play on with his very first ball, the opposition were 4-2 and this was game on. Brandon then produced a snorter of a delivery which their batsman gloved uncomfortably to Neel Malde in the gully. Two caught Warne bowled Cohen dismissals then followed and Owens were five down and staring down the barrel. Some resistance then followed and a couple of chances were missed. But with the introduction of Zeddy, bowling back to his best, the wickets kept coming and Radlett eventually claimed the victory with a little over four overs of the match remaining.
Man of the match is a hard decision, Bhavin Kakkad produced an extremely gutsy knock and should be congratulated for that, his 29 was the top score in the match and Pecky’s 23 not out made the victory possible. But this was a day for the bowlers, Brandon will worry most batsmen at this level with his pace and this wicket was made for Z Gitay, but (I may regret this) Dan Cohen very much stepped up to the plate today and so he takes the award. TFCs should not be awarded in matches such as these as this was a fine team effort, but rules are rules so sorry Shameel the gong goes to you this week.
It must not be forgotten that the batting is still not showing sufficient application, but for today, it was well done Radlett thirds this was a performance you can be proud of.
