Match report
There are some days when you have to accept that you were simply not good enough, and Saturday was unfortunately one of those days. A strong Holtwhites outfit won the toss on a proper summer’s day and unsurprisingly elected to bat. From ball one they batted with high intensity and severely punished anything that was off line. The running between the wickets was also impressive. 46 overs later they had compiled, with relative ease, 272 runs and had the luxury of offering a generous declaration to the weary, leather chasing home side. The positives were a hostile and accurate opening spell from Brandon Lewis well supported by his new ball partner, Dan Cohen. Shamit’s four wickets and Prabs come back from an uncharacteristic opening two over spell which haemorrhaged 26 runs. Colin Warne performed with his usual high consistency behind the stumps. The batting unfortunately failed to meet the required standard needed at this level and despite Matt Bell’s impressive whirlwind 38 at the top of the order which started the innings at the necessary tempo needed for chasing victory, the remainder surrendered without sufficient fight. To be fair the opposition bowled with aggression and pinpoint accuracy which drained all life out of the Radlett resistance and this was backed up by a professional and enthusiastic fielding performance (apart from their keeper!). Radlett ended up 130 all out, and disappointingly, with a third of the allotted overs unused.
It is too early to gauge exactly where we are in this division, especially as four of our six games have been against opponents currently lying in the top seven positions on the log, but you do feel that at this stage of the season, as in previous years, a realistic goal for this side is, in premiership speak, the preverbial ’40 points’ and survival in the division.
Next Saturday is a new day and a chance for us to get back on the horse.
