Match report .

LGCC have no wheelable covers, so use a groundsheet to protect the pitch from any rain before or during a game. The pitch for this match had been used previously, and repaired skilfully, with areas of new grass established in the old blockholes. The grass was cut short, with more patches of green than straw colour visible. Rain fell quite heavily between noon and 12:15 hr. LGCC won the toss, and decided to bat.

Play began promptly at 13:00 hr under an overcast sky, with Deon Carolus and John Barr sharing the bowling attack for RCC. Deon's first over, a maiden, contained several balls which passed LGCC's No. 1's defensive shots at speed. John's single over induced the odd false shot. One ball of Deon's second over produced a nick which passed between two slips at catchable height for a boundary, but with one ball of the over remaining, rain began to fall heavily, and the players and umpires left the field. The LGCC players placed the groundsheet on the pitch.

For matches interrupted by bad weather, the League match rules stipulate that, for a match to be classed as a league match, a minimum of 40 overs must be bowled in the first innings. Two overs, shared equally between the two sides, are lost for each seven minutes lost. Thus, if more than 97 minutes are lost from the first innings due to rain, the match cannot count.

With brief intervals of fairness, the rain continued to fall in variable quantities until about 14:15 hr, when it became heavier still. The outfield was thoroughly wet by this time, and the match was abandoned at this point. Both teams received 10 points for this match.
