Radlett CC 1st XI v Ashton Rowant on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 11.00
Radlett CC Won By 43 runs

Match report Radlett played host to HCPL newcomers Aston Rowant in what proved to be a thriller. You are unlikely to see a more dramatic fixture as Shane Burger took three wickets in the day's final over to snatch victory, his last two victims falling in the last two balls.

ARCC skipper and talisman Wes Morrick won the toss and with the away side needing a win, elected to field. The early losses of Jenkins (0), Toor (12) and Patel (17) left Radlett in early trouble at 37 for 3. Toor and Patel in particular can question their shot selection after both being caught by long leg off medium pace bowling. Burger and Mike Crocker then batted sensibly rebuilding the Radlett innings, both unbeaten at lunch.

With Radlett looking in a position to kick on after lunch, they lost the two quick wickets of Crocker (32) and Dill (0). Burger continued to bat nicely at one end whilst cameos from Dungaria (11) and Soffair (15) helped push Radlett total to 150. Radlett No 9 Corran then batted superbly, and finally delivered with the batting potential he has shown. Burger (79) was eventually dismissed and would be disappointed not to reach his second hundred of the season. Corran pushed the ball around nicely, and combined with a few big shots ending on 34*. Radlett reached a competitive 214 off their allotted 66 overs, with Paynter (5) and Ben Charles (6*).

Radlett entered the field confident off claiming all 10 wickets, especially with the pressure on the Aston Rowant batsman to help produce their first victory of the season. Burger got the early breakthrough of Morgan, with Dungaria taking a very good catch at gully. The second-wicket partnership took Aston Rowant to 51 before Toor removed the dangerous Todd (31), caught smartly at slip by Burger.

Rowant captain and talisman Morrick came out playing very aggressively and effectively, putting Radlett firmly on the back foot. With the game slipping away from Radlett, Matt Corran swooped on an attempted quick single and ran out Jewell for 31, reducing Aston Rowant to 126 for 3. Spin twins Toor and Dungaria were always a threat and picked up wickets regularly. When Dungaria claimed the crucial wicket of Morrick on 57, Aston Rowant shut up shop and looked to have done so effectively until the last over.

With Radlett needing three wickets off the last over, Burger took matters into his own hands, claiming a wicket first ball of the over. Needing two wickets off the last two balls, Burger produced a good yorker to bowl Penhale. With a wicket off the last ball to claim victory, Burger steamed in with an umbrella field and yorked Humphreys, hitting him on the toe in front of all three. An amazing end to a game that Radlett, at one stage looked like losing ended up winning at the very last.
