Radlett CC 1st XI v High Wycombe on Sat 15 May 2010 at 11:00
Radlett CC Won By 5 wickets
Match report
A man of the match performance from skipper Shane Burger helps Radlett beat High Wycombe for the first time after 14 matches with a five-wicket victory at Cobden Hill on Saturday and for only the second time since the league started in 2000. High Wycombe skipper Matt Eyles won the toss and decided to bat on a very good wicket.
Shane Burger and Matt Corran opened the bowling and it wasn’t long until Corran got the wicket of Eyles with a good delivery that took his off bail. Paynter was introduced early and got a wicket first delivery he bowled. High Wycombe were struggling at 23 for 2 and things didn’t get any better when Burger brought himself back on to get rid of the dangerous Paul Sawyer with a good delivery that hit the off stump. Paynter continued to bowl well along with Burger and Corran and was rewarded with another wicket just before lunch with the score on 84. High Wycombe continued to work away and found themselves in more trouble when they lost their 7th wicket with the score on 132. High Wycombe sneaked their way up to a score of 173 all out and Radlett would have 54 overs to chase the score. Burger finished with figures of 4 – 48 in 18 overs, Kabir Toor assisting with 3 – 27 in his 14 overs of leg-breaks.
Radlett’s chase got off to a rocky start with Toor loosing his wicket for 0 to a good delivery. James Lewis was joined by Graham Dill and together they batted very well playing some fantastic strokes. Unfortunately Lewis lost his wicket when he was on 31 to a poor shot that was caught. In walked Burger and it wasn’t long until he got in his stride hitting his second ball he faced for 4 through the covers. Dill played a poor stroke when he hit a full toss straight up in the air and Radlett were struggling at 72 for 4. Fakir Dungaria joined the skipper at the crease and the two produced some fantastic stroke play to take the pressure off Radlett and put it straight back onto High Wycombe. Dungaria received a fantastic delivery and edged it to the wicket keeper for a well played 38. Mike Crocker joined the skipper and together they formed a partnership which took the team to victory score of 174 for the loss of 5 wickets with Burger ending on a well played 66 not out.
Burger said after the game “It is always a good feeling when you beat a great team like High Wycombe. Our record has not been great over the years against them but today we out played them. I am pleased I could put together a performance for the team like today and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Radlett are away to Henley on Saturday.
