Radlett CC Academy v Letchworth on Sun 05 Jun 2005 at 1:30
Radlett CC Lost 75 runs
Match report
Ths first academy game of the season and Radlett produced a creditbale performance with a very young side against a very good and older Letchworth side. The rules of this league are that there must be 7 colts (YP) and 4 adults.
Radlett bowled first and bowled very well with Dhylan Baskaran and Paras Shah opening up against some very good batsmen and bowled well. Roshan came on to replace his brother and soon produced an edge which Tony Cohen, in his first game for 2 years took beautifully. Unfortunately this brought in an class act (Booth) who scored a 50 before falling to Manicam Baskaran, to become one of his 3 victims.
Ashley Tillet bowled his eight overs of spin and took a well deserved wicket. Matt Woodhead also took a wicket with a good ball. Not to be outdone Tony Cohen asked Anuj Amershi to take the gloves and he also took a wicket with the aid of a good Dhylan Baskaran catch.
Overall the bowling and fielding from this young side was excellent with Mehul Shah a bundle of energy in the field. At the close of the Letchworth innings we thought we had done well to keep them to 204.
After a bountiful tea, full of Mr Kipling cakes and super sarnies, the Radlett reply got off to a storming start with skipper Baskaran threatening to take the game away from Letchworth but he got a goodun from quickie Doran who took two quick wickets as Radlett looked to be DORAN DORAN!!!! Ashley Tillett and Matt Woodhead then put together a wonderful 82 run stand which brought us close but once they went the young middle order did not accelerate other than County player Paras Shah. As the game fell away from us we were treated to Glenn McGrath (Chris Morse) bowling to a 7 slip 2 gully field!!!
At the end the feeeling was we lost but the boys will have gained good experience in playing their first 40 over game and not disgracing themselves. The best side won but with better turn out from our older colts we could do well.
Well done to everybody.
