North Mymms IV v Radlett CC 5th XI on Sat 18 Jun 2005 at 1.30
Radlett CC Won 10 wickets
Match report
The Radlett V team annihilated a young North Mymms side by 10 wickets, on a scorching day at the Royal Vetinary College.
After a late switch of venue Radlett arrived late, but raring to go. The match started at 2.15pm after Mike Dexter, stand-in skipper, had lost the toss and been put in the field, with the line “We’ll have a bat, coz that’s what we’re best at!”. And so it proved as the home team slumped to 45 for 5. The Lederman father and son bowling attack worked well, accounting for the first two wickets, While Vikram had his bowling trousers on, as he claimed two for himself.
At 3.45pm the Radlett skipper arrived, but little changed on the field as Radlett turned the screw and began to ruthlessly account for the tail. Atul Patel looked a different class with his off spin and the Mymms batsmen had little answer to his trickery. Radlett conspired to drop two catches in his second over, but he was rewarded for his hard work with 2 wickets. Matt Woodhead enjoyed his cameo with the ball taking 3 wickets in 5 overs for only 5 runs, 4 of which were wides!!!
By 4.35pm Radlett had only one wicket to take with the score dangerously close to 70! The field was set as though Glenn McGrath himself were about to bowl with 3 slips, 2 gullies, a silly mid-off and a forward short-leg! Neil Lederman finished the innings off with yet another fine left arm delivery, which slide across the No11, who guided the ball directly to the captain at 3rd slip.
Tea lasted nearly as long as the Radlett innings, being as it was 30 minutes long, and play was underway at 5.10pm. Vikram had his scoring trousers on and the skipper’s instructions were clear – 10 wicket victory and 30 points!
After an edgy first 3 overs the opening pair of Dexter and Barrett had fairly raced to 13. However after being dropped twice in the third over, the skipper soon began to play his shots. The innings was completed 6.1 overs and 60 runs later, although had Vikram not decided to change out of his scoring trousers and into his victory shirt, so missing any of the runs scored in the 7th over, the game may have finished even sooner! Mike Dexter was stranded on 6 not out, with Skipper Barrett achieving an unbeaten 53 having hogged the strike expertly throughout!
So a second victory in a row sees the Radlett V team progress further up the Division 12 table, and with a number of young players due to feature more frequently in the coming games the prospects for the rest of the season look good.
