Radlett CC 4th XI v Hexton on Sat 27 Aug 2005 at 1.00
Radlett CC Won 4 wickets
Match report
The 4’s welcomed fellow relegation candidates, Hexton to Cobden Hill on Saturday.
On winning the toss, Jamie Wells asked the visitors to bat first.
Searle and Lederman, the two left armers soon set about their work. Lederman again turned in fantastic figures, he cleaned bowled 2 of the top order batters and is quickly turning into a vital member of this team. Searle called upon all of his experience and bowled unchanged from one end, he deserved more than his 4 wickets. Mark Evans, playing his final game for Radlett before heading back to New Zealand, carried on the good work in a tidy spell and picked up wickets either side of the drinks break. It was left to the 4th team’s most consistent bowler this season, Meepa to finish off the tail.
Hexton had lost early wickets, but some useful partnerships down the order go them to a respectable total of 141. Importantly they had given Radlett 58 overs to get this total. Radlett had saved their best fielding performance for this match and produced some excellent catches to back up some solid ground fielding.
Evans was promoted to open the innings, he and Bell gave their side a solid platform. When Bell was out for 20 and the score on 48, Radlett looked in control. Evans and Randall continued the good work, but when Mark was out to a stunning slip catch for 37, wickets began to tumble.
It was left to the experienced Randall and the Captain, Wells to hold their nerve and put together a partnership against some tight bowling. Both encountered problems from Hexton’s off spinner, but gradually started to find the gaps. They put on 40 before Wells fell with 10 runs required. Randall finished the job in some style. His 31 not out was worth much more given the match situation.
30 points from this game has given us every chance to stay in division 6. A big thanks to Tony Cohen for umpiring and to all the people that came to support.
