Match report Little went Radlett's way in their five-wicket defeat by fellow Division Six relegation candidates University College Academicals at the Arsenal training ground, London Colney.

Ash Kamal ruptured an Achilles tendon while batting with his son Ameer, 14, one of Radlett's most promising batsmen, and skipper Jamie Wells suffered a badly bruised finger attempting sharp slip catch. The result meant UCA leap-frogged over Radlett in the table.

Wells's decision to bat first was mocked by a green pitch of erratic bounce that made stroke play very hazardous. Radlett's top three - Wells, Matt Bell, Charlie Randall - nicked catches behind the wicket, and Simon Randall, after a promising start, was trapped by a ball that kept low. Tony Peck, with a bright 29, and last man Sheri Jahangir, driving well, took the total to 109 with a late flurry.

The UCA's first wicket put on 47 in reply after Jahangir had induced an early nick to vacant second slip that would have existed if Kamal had not been absent. Meepagama removed both openers in an accurate spell, and the introduction of Charlie Randall's left-arm spin gave Radlett control, reducing UCA to 60 for five.

It could have been better for Radlett if the UCA's match-winning left-hander had not nudged a catching chance to Wells on the leg side off Meepa. Wells, trying to hide himself in the field with his strapped fingers, tried unsuccessfully to take the catch with his left-hand at an awkward height. The batsman soon survived another chance on the boundary, this time off Randall, and UCA made the most of the let-offs.
