Radlett CC 4th XI v Ware on Sat 25 Jun 2005 at 1.30
Radlett CC Won 8 wickets
Match report
After 4 defeats in a row, Captain and Vice Captain asked for a huge effort from their troops, and they got it. This was a fine performance from a team that had to be patched together late in the week due to the number of drop outs in the higher teams.
On a wet wicket, Wells won the toss and asked Ware to bat. Jerry Menzies produced his best bowling spell of the season and got Radlett off to the start they so desperately needed. His 3-39 in 15 overs was a great effort.
When drinks arrived at the end of the 26th over, Ware had limped along to 49-4.
One of our late replacements was to prove a hero with the ball. Ash Kamal, whose recent performances in the 5th team had already been impressive, bowled a fantastic spell and returned amazing figures of 4 wickets for 8 runs in 7 overs. When Fulton dismissed the dangerous Ware captain Schlaepfer, Radlett were well on top. Schlaepfer is without doubt one of the best batsmen in division 6, a nice scalp for Sean’s first Radlett wicket.
The bowlers were backed up by some great fielding. Andrew Brant took another impressive catch in the covers and a couple of snappy slip catches were held. The return of Clarke behind the stumps was a huge boost and he turned in a faultless display. His alertness to stump their opener may well have been the turning point of the game.
A total of 96 may not sound much, but the track was one that needed to be watched carefully.
Wells and Bell set about the chase. Matty Bell continued his fine start to the season, and the pair survived an awkward opening spell. When Wells fell to a good catch for 38 they had put on 75 and were in touching distance. Bell eventually fell for 45 with just one run required. It was left to the ever reliable Tony Peck and debutant Atul Patel to see Radlett home to a much needed 30 points.
