Match report Radlett IV started their Herts Division Six season with a seven-wicket defeat by Old Albanians II that was especially disappointing because they were gracing the top ground at Cobden Hill for the first and only time this summer.

In the absence of Jamie Wells and Matt Bell, captain and vice-captain, who were organising a golf tournament in Tenerife, the batting proved to be brittle, and Radlett were dismissed for 107 on a very slow pitch, about 40 runs too light.

The strip, though looking damp, gave bowlers little help apart from occasional bounce, and a succession of batsmen got themselves out. Tony Johnson snicked a very wide delivery in the day's second over, and the important wicket of James Clarke fell when he bottom-edged an attempted cut, having driven a fine six to push the score along.

With the dismissal of top-scorer Charlie Randall, a reasonable platform of 65 for three quickly became 73 for seven, though the tail wagged enough to take the score into three figures.

Albanians used up more overs, almost 42, in making the runs. `Meepa' Meepagama's accurate seamers had them struggling with three for 22 in 15 overs, but he lacked support to maintain pressure as a dull game reached its conclusion.
