Radlett CC 3rd XI v Sandridge on Sat 07 May 2005 at 1.30

Match report
SANDRIDGE endured a frustrating and rather bizarre match against Radlett III at Cobden Hill in Division Five on Saturday.
After winning the toss on a good looking track, 'Ridge skipper John Murphy elected to bat, giving his batsmen a chance to redeem themselves after the previous week's failure. Ian Merryfield and Kevin Murphy opened and batted with assurance and, despite some alarming moments, they pushed the score up to 53.
Murphy (15) was first out to a smart catch behind and when Camm fell for a rare duck, the score was 58-2. Andre Norman came in and looked in fine form until he was bowled for just eight which left the 'ridgers reeling at 68-3. 17-year-old Matt Corran then joined fellow teenager Merryfield at the crease. They both impressed and Merryfield in particular was rock solid and dispatched anything loose with real distain. He passed his maiden 50 and celebrated with a huge pulled six.
The partnership was at 67 when Merryfield was ousted after a superb 70. Corran then continued the attack and with a series of classy strokes reached 42, before perishing, chasing some late runs. The 'Ridgers finished on 176-8 thanks largely to the two youngsters. Bowlers Oliver Robertson with four wickets and Richard Hardy did well for Radlett.
As the track flattened, the 'Ridgers were expecting a tough afternoon and the form of the Radlett openers, Colin Warne (23) and Dominic Ingram (11) suggested they meant business. Muskett was his usual economical self but John Murphy was out of sorts and the Radlett batters took delight in dispatching some loose deliveries. 30 came off the first 10 before Muskett bowled Ingram. This became 42-2 as Muskett struck again which proved to be the turning point of the match as Amjad Khan then arrived at the crease and made 31 not out. Murphy got an LBW decision but with the score at 60-3 Radlett needed a very gettable 116 from 24 overs.
With the 'Ridge bowling accurately the away team felt there seemed to be a reluctance from the Radlett batsmen to take a risk despite wickets in hand. Lawrence White bowled the stubborn Simon Gray (17) but with Khan at the crease a win for Sandridge was not going to happen. A superb six from John Crocker woke everybody up but unfortunately for the game he was bowled repeating the shot. Muskett returned the superb figures of 19-9-23-3 as Radlett ended on 128-6.
