Match report Radlett travelled to Watford Town on Saturday, knowing that a win was needed to steer them clear of the relegation zone. Radlett won the toss and, for the first time this season, chose to bat first on a flat wicket. However, things didn't start well for this young Radlett side as wickets tumbled to the Watford Town opening bowlers. There seemed to be no stemming the tide against the Watford quickies with only James Lewis (25) and Mark Evans (29) making any impression as Radlett stumbled to 80-7.

As has happened before this season, it was again down to the lower order to regain some composure and make use of all the overs still available. The last three wickets managed to double the Radlett total thanks to Robbie Crocker (30*), Brian Dummer (17) and Heath Paynter (14).

With only 162 to defend, Radlett needed early wickets. They looked initially to the spinners to throw the Watford openers off balance, but the batsmen were equal to the task and quickly raced to one hundred without loss. The introduction of John Smithers and Heath Paynter enabled Radlett to regain some measure of control as Paynter dismissed one of the openers and Smithers, bowling a great line, put a brake on the run rate. Together they accounted for the four wickets to fall, Smithers (2-29) Paynter (2-44). The Watford batsmen were made to work extremely hard for their remaining 60 runs, but they had plenty of overs in hand. Watford’s winning runs finally came in the 45th over.
