Match report Radlett suffered their first defeat under new captain Olly Robertson at Cobden Hill on Saturday. Batting first in tricky conditions, they weathered the difficulties of the damp pitch and the prodigious movement of the ball fairly well and moved swiftly through to 100 for 3 after just 20 overs. But, at that point, the match turned decisively in Welwyn Garden City's favour with the remaining 7 wickets adding just 22 runs. Chief destroyer was WGC's Paul Woolley who in 11.2 overs took 8 wickets for 28 runs. Besides a brilliant 54 by Paul Windmill, his first half-century for the 2nds, the only other innings worth a mention was the valiant 28 by Jon Smithers.

122 was never really going to be enough and Radlett knew they had to have WGC under pressure from the outset to stand any chance. Welwyn saw it differently and they built a solid start. Some good bowling by John Smithers, Toby Sutherland and Olly Robertson pegged WGC back a bit and three wickets had fallen by the time the score had reached 60. But WGC then took the initiative and their number five proceeded to hit 46 runs off just 16 balls to finally kill off any fleeting Radlett hopes of a victory. The final WGC winning margin was a comfortable 6 wickets.
